She works til 11 every night and I til midnight, so she always comes in to get some wine and go home, and she chats me up about watching a patient die slowly because he tried to shoot himself through the mouth and missed his brain.
Lovely. :|

If her boss knew she was doing that, she could very well get fired. Patient confidentiality act. You should probbbbably not share what she shares with you.

I’m fairly certain that only applies if the person is identified. As in the difference between “Phil Jonhson tried to shoot himself” rather than “I had a patient today who tried to shoot himself.”
I could be wrong, however. But my mother has been a nurse since before I was born and often shared stories with my stepfather (and myself as I got older). And she has fairly good judgement when it comes to her job.
Plus how do they expect people to hold all of that all to themselves? That’s just not healthy.

I am taking courses that involve medical (I’d be a medical secretary), and as far as I know, saying anything about your patients is not a good idea. It’s better to not identify them by names, but you can very easily figure out if the story being told is about them.. so it’s just best to be very vague on these things for your own job security.
